Expert Talk: Changing brake discs at Mercedes Benz

Whether it’s a small car or an SUV, it’s the brake systems that do the heavy-duty work – to ensure that they can do this reliably at all times, brake pads and discs must be regularly maintained and replaced. You surely know from your own experience that depending on the vehicle, this can get quite involved and complex.

And the Mercedes-Benz models are complex in this regard. The Benz brake disc has a sheet steel hub that’s only 2.5 mm thin, so it’s highly susceptible to damage. This means that many standard manual operations (like turning the front axle on the friction ring) must be avoided as they would damage the brake disc.

Sounds tricky, doesn’t it? But it doesn’t have to be. Our service technician Frank Schmidt shows you what to do to ensure that everything runs smoothly during maintenance and repair. In our latest Expert Talk video, he explains why our one-piece ATE brake disc can be used as a registration-free replacement for the original parts and how our specially designed fixing screw helps you avoid damage to the hub.

After that, you can watch him while he demonstrates the unique three-part tightening process on the vehicle.
